🍵 Best Matcha Lattes in San Francisco, USA 🍵

Reviewing all the matcha lattes I’ve tried in San Francisco, California

Read the intro post here and let me know if there are places I should check out next!

Asha Tea House, 5 ⭐️

I’ve gotten many matcha drinks here, including a regular latte (the one pictured has boba) - but their matcha is amazing and they individually hand whisk every order!

If you’re going to Ocean Beach, this is a must do! A cafe + bookstore is my literal dream and they use Rocky’s Matcha (which I’ve heard about but never tried until now). This iced matcha was the best companion to SF’s October heatwave!

Kiss of Matcha, 5 ⭐️

Iced matcha latte with oat milk - this was amazing! They use ceremonial grade matcha and it was super smooth. The colour says everything - a deep vibrant green!

Postscript, 5 ⭐️

Overlooking the fact that the barista spilt my drink over the edge, this was a delicious matcha (from Bellocq). Vibrant green + strong matcha taste = perfection. The cafe itself is cute with lots of knickknacks and seating!

Little Sweet, 5 ⭐️

We got the mango matcha latte with boba so this isn’t a true comparison but the matcha flavor was still strong. It wasn’t overly sweet with the mango, so highly recommend if you’re looking for a boba drink!

Wake Cup, 5 ⭐️

A great spot to grab a matcha and wander into the Panhandle/GGP - ceremonial grade matcha with barista oat milk. The matcha does have more astringent notes, but it was still a great drink!

Stonemill Matcha, 4.5 ⭐️

Hot matcha latte with oat milk, unsweetened. Stonemill is known for their great matcha quality, and definitely recommend trying their matcha cream cake too! Taking off a half star for the long line.

Cafe Réveille, 3 ⭐️

I observed the barista preparing the matcha with a bamboo whisk so I was really excited for the drink but I don’t think they use a high grade of matcha - I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is but this wasn’t the best matcha latte.

Cafe Shoji, 3 ⭐️

Matcha einspänner run with my team! Expect long lines. I feel like the way they prepared our drinks was different than what I saw online as there was a lot of cream. Team verdict was that it tasted like a soft serve soup with a hint of matcha. Would go back to try their other drinks though!

Feng Cha, 3 ⭐️

I got the iced oat matcha, 25% sweet. The description says they use premium matcha but from the light green/yellow colour, I’m not too sure! It was a nice, refreshing drink with a subtle matcha taste but not my first pick.

Andytown, 2 ⭐️

Wouldn’t really recommend this one, but it isn’t bad, just not as strong or flavourful as other hot matchas. A perfect location in Salesforce Park with lots of seating (or a stroll in the park)!

Peet’s Coffee, 1 ⭐️

I was excited because the website claims they use great quality matcha but this was horrible, almost 0 matcha taste so don’t waste your money here!

Their matcha latte with oat milk, unsweetened is the best ever - the perfect treat to get and walk around FiDi or go to the pier!

Maruwu Seicha, 5 ⭐️

The matcha was very strong and extremely smooth. A heads up, I got the Matcha Latte and you can’t adjust the ice level! The other drink is the Taro Fuji Matcha latte which my husband got - the regular sweetness was very sweet and the drink tasted like melted ice cream.

Verve Coffee Roasters has a cafe inside the lounge and it does not disappoint. I was skeptical of the matcha but they hand whisk each drink - you can tell by the colour that it’s great quality and it was an unexpected treat.

Komeya No Bento, 5 ⭐️

No negatives here - We got the mango matcha and an iced matcha with oat milk and both were amazing. Great quality matcha. which you can also buy to make at home. Long lines here as well, but 100% worth the wait.

I was skeptical given Sightglass is known for their coffee but the matcha did not disappoint! Ceremonial grade with Minor Figures oat milk, a chefs kiss. Definitely recommend, the 7th St location is super spacious with lots of seating too.

The ice cream has a strong matcha flavour and isn’t overly sweet! If you go on a hot day, expect long lines. I also tried their latte (not pictured) but I found it a bit clumpy so bumping it down to 4 stars.

Junbi Matcha, 3.5 ⭐️

New location in the city right across Asha! We got the strawberry matcha latte and a yuzu dragonfruit matcha cold brew. The latte wasn’t as strong as I’d like (you can tell from the colour) - but we found the other drink super refreshing.

Starbucks, 3.5 ⭐️

As of 2025, they’ve relaunched their matcha powder without any sweetness - make sure to specify no Classic Syrup as that’s the default. I got a soy matcha and it was surprisingly good - not my first recommendation but it’s convenient if you’re in a pinch. Bonus points for bringing your own cup and getting $0.10 off and extra stars!

Birdcage, 2.5 ⭐️

The matcha used here is the Sencha Organics from Costco which a culinary grade, so I wasn’t expecting anything amazing. There’s a hint of matcha but mostly overpowered by the oat milk.

Boba Guys, 2 ⭐️

Before trying some of the other places mentioned here, I thought Boba Guys was the gold standard. Their drinks are overly sweet and judging by the colour, I don’t think it’s ceremonial grade matcha.

Red Bay Coffee, 2 ⭐️

The matcha here isn’t terrible but it’s definitely not my first choice - there are chunks of matcha leftover at the end so it’s not whisked well and the drink in general has a very faint taste of matcha.
